Every bottle of Kafana is made from nothing but 12kg of locally sourced plums, that are fermented by the yeast on the plum skins, double distilled, and aged for 3 years in Oak barrels.

In the Balkans, this essential spirit is also known as rakia, slivovitz or plum brandy. Our co-founder Nevena grew up in Serbia, where rakia is a tradition passed through generations and every family distils their own. Her father built his own distillation trailer, which neighbours would borrow each plum season.

And where does our name come from?

Kafana is the word for 'tavern' across the Balkans and there's one on almost every street corner, serving rakia, coffee, food and live music.

What we are bringing to the UK is not just an exceptional spirit. It is everything around it: the ritual, the warmth, the unhurried culture of people gathering around a table.

That spirit lives in every bottle of kafana.
